Orange (Citrus family)
Orange is in the large family of citrus fruits that include grapefruit, lime, tangerine, lemon, pomelo, citron, to mention but a few. Citrus can be said to be the most popular fruit in the world. The orange fruit is a reddish-yellow nearly globose fruit that originated from China but is widely cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical climates. The fruit is juicy, sweet and fleshy and very rich in vitamin C and calcium.

In Nigeria, most orange consumption follows a quick peel-off of the skin and sucking the juice from the pulp. However, there is a growing interest in canned or packaged orange juice. Derivatives of the orange fruit include jams, marmalades, jellies and the sweet/biscuit products.
