Garden Egg
The garden egg is known as 'anara' or 'nnya' in the eastern
parts and 'igba' in the western parts of Nigeria respectively. The fruit
is a common feature in traditional ceremonies especially in the western
part of the country. Propagated through seeds, it is ascrub grown around
homes and in gardens.
There are a lot of varieties but two are most common - the garden egg has its green and white species while the egg plant is used in porridges and other home menus. Garden eggs can be oblong, spherical or round in shape and can be slightly bitter. |
