Banana (Musa Paradisiaca)
Its
early origin is traced to the West Indies and tropical Africa. The banana
group comprises many species including plantain and it is cultivated in
most tropical and sub-tropical countries. It is propagated through its suckers
and the fruits are harvested in 9 – 18 months. Banana is commonly described as the most popular fruit in the world trade after citrus. It is a giant herb without any hard tissue and no stem. The fruit is fine flavoured and seedless and a good source of vitamin A and phosphorus. |
